Website statistics are all primarily based on raw log files from
the webserver. Techtrade uses Apache version 1.3.3, which
creates an access log and an error log for each virtual server.
These logs provide the raw data for statistics program to use and
analyze. Raw logs are updated in real-time and rotated on a
monthly basis.
Techtrade maintains all virtual server log files in Apache
Extended Log Format (ELF), which not only records the access
information for each visitor, but also their agent information (Browser
used, OS used) and referral information (URL prior to visit). This
format allows you to have the most information available on
visitors to your website.
Each virtual server has an error log used for diagnosing problems
relating to their website. Any errors Apache encounters will be
logged into the error log. Without error log, it is very difficult
to administer a successful website and pinpoint troublesome
scripts.
Each virtual server's access and error log files are updated every
five minutes, providing you with up-to-date information on your
site. Entries are recorded sequentially and provide you with an
accurate look at what is going on with your site.
Unlike other hosting companies which delete logs daily or do not
even maintain log files, Techtrade will maintain log files
without rotation for the entire month, before deleting the logs
and starting over for the next month.
